Hand & Kin

What did Etsy actually take?

A free check for Etsy sellers. Add your monthly statement CSVs to see every fee Etsy charged, by type and by month, what selling on Etsy cost as a share of your sales, and what the same orders would cost at the published Hand & Kin rates.

Nothing is uploaded. The file is read in your browser.

Get your statement from Etsy

  1. Generate the CSV. In Shop Manager, go to Finances, then Monthly statements. Pick a month and choose Generate CSV.
  2. Download it. Open the download link Etsy emails you and save the file.
  3. Add it here. Drop one or more files below, or choose them from your computer.

Etsy monthly statements, one CSV per month. Select several at once to see them side by side. The files stay on this device.

Hand & Kin has no public listings yet. We’re gathering interest from independent makers for a first preview. The comparison shows fees on orders you already had, not sales you would make here.

A few things
to know.

Where do I get the statement file?

In Etsy, open Shop Manager, then Finances, then Monthly statements. Pick a month and choose Generate CSV. Etsy emails you a download link when the file is ready. Repeat for each month you want to check, then choose all the files here together. A month uploaded twice counts once.

Is my statement uploaded anywhere?

No. JavaScript on this page reads the file in your browser, and the numbers stay in memory until you close or reload the tab. The file is not sent to Hand & Kin or anyone else, and nothing is saved. When analytics is allowed, the page records one event per audit with the file format, the number of months, an order-count range and a fee-rate range. It never records amounts, file names, shop names or emails.

Which fees are counted?

Every fee line on the statement is shown by type. Listing fees, transaction fees, payment processing, Offsite Ads, regulatory operating fees and any other fee line count as selling fees: they make up the headline, your rate and the Hand & Kin comparison. Etsy Ads, Etsy Plus subscription and shipping labels are shown separately as optional purchases and are left out of your rate and the comparison. Credits, such as fees Etsy returns when an order is refunded, are netted against their fee type. Sales tax that Etsy collects for you and deposits to your bank are excluded from your sales.

Why is my rate higher than the transaction fee?

The 6.5% transaction fee is one of several selling fees. Payment processing adds 3% + $0.25 per order and is charged on the whole order, including the sales tax that is left out of your sales here. Each listing costs $0.20 when it is published and again each time it renews, including after a sale. An order that Etsy attributes to an Offsite Ad costs 15% of the order, or 12% once a shop has ever reached $10,000 in sales within the window Etsy's policy defines, up to $100 per order. The fixed amounts weigh most on small orders. Etsy Ads, Etsy Plus subscription and shipping labels are not part of the rate.

How is the Hand & Kin number worked out?

It applies the published Hand & Kin rates to the sales and order count in your files: a 5% marketplace fee plus card processing at 2.9% + $0.30 per order, passed through at cost. There is no listing fee and no required advertising fee to add. This is an estimate, not a quote: it treats each order's full amount before sales tax, including shipping, as the item price, and leaves out card processing on sales tax. The Etsy side counts selling fees only, so Etsy Ads, Etsy Plus subscription and shipping labels are left out. The comparison appears for monthly statements with sales. It compares fees on orders you already had and does not predict sales.

Can I use the Orders or Payments export instead?

The Etsy Payments sales export only includes payment processing fees, so the tool shows those as a floor, not the total, with no Hand & Kin comparison. The Orders export lists no fees and is not accepted. Use the monthly statement for the full picture, because transaction, listing and ad fees are only there. If you add statements and a Payments export together, the Payments export is skipped because the statements already cover it.
